Money.Net can be run in two ways

1. From the downloadable desktop application.  This is the recommended way to run Money.Net and is the best solution if you are using your own computer.  The installation required is much smaller than a full Java installation and you will note improved speed and stability.  You can get the desktop application by going to www.money.net/download.

2. In a web browser (like Internet Explorer or Firefox).  To run in a browser you will need install a free browser plug-in called Java.  You can get Java by going to www.java.com.   This is a good solution if you are using a computer that is not your own or that you do not have permission to install software on.

Note: As of April 2014, Chrome no longer supports the plugin required to run Java.  Please use an alternate browser or the downloadable desktop version of Money.Net.

Money.Net Platform Overview

In Money.Net, you can create up to ten completely customizable views. In each view, you can add multiple modules, resize modules, and customize all colors and settings for each module

Modules

In Money.Net, you will be employing modules to view the data that you want to see. As discussed earlier in the guide, the default Money.Net view contains examples of seven types of modules. There are currently sixteen types of modules that you can use when setting up your views.  Modules can be thought of as a “window” to data on the “desktop” that is a view. Modules can be moved, resized, and named to your liking.

Module Types

In this section we will cover each of the modules available to you.

Quote Grid - Full Version

Quote Grid - Full Version connects you to your own live streaming enterprise-level market data feed to monitor your portfolios. In this module, you can sort, order, add/remove, arrange, and adjust colors to your preference. You can create up to 30 portfolios with up to 50 symbols in each. If you require more than fifty real time tickers on one screen, we recommend that you use the Money.Net Excel API Plug-In.  It is easy to use, comprehensive, and included free with your subscription to Money.net.

More in depth instructions for the Quote Grid (and Quick Watchlist) can be found here.

Quote Grid - Quick Watchlist Version

Quote Grid - Quick Watchlist Version is a streamlined version of the Quote Grid - Full Version.  Think of it as a way to opt-in the data you want from a bare minimum as opposed to opting-out from all of the data available.  It will be explained more later in the handbook.

Chart

Our proprietary, professional grade charting platform is both intuitive and powerful. The charts can take you from live ticks to 20 years of history with the click of a button. Boasting over 50 technical indicators, the Chart module also has:

  • Oscillators, Overlays, Comparative Analysis

  • Export to CSV and  PNG

  • Bar, Line, Area, and Candle graphs

  • Custom Color Settings

Chart Grid

The Chart Grid module is a modified version of the Chart module that allows you to create a matrix of smaller chart modules to quickly see many charts at once.  Simply choose the number you want (up to 6x6) and then start adding charts by typing a ticker into the Search bar and pressing enter.

News

The News module is an aggregator of free and subscription news services brought to you in real time.  You can follow market movement, major global news, and sort by companies or search terms that you choose.  Clicking on a news headline will launch the full story for you to read.

Option Chain

The Option Chain is a useful tool that lists option quotes in order of strike price for present and future months for a given symbol. This feature makes it easier to find the option quotes you are looking for so that you can add them to your portfolios to track.

Radar

Radar is our proprietary, interactive analytical tool. It is a fun, powerful and unique view for mapping the market.  Radar displays visual boxes in shades of green and red (depending on how much the stock is up or down for the day). The default shows the S&P 500, allowing you to immediately see a visual representation of the day’s market activity. You can easily see what sectors and industries are up or down, and specifically which stocks are standing out for the day (so you won't miss any unusual outliers). Radar allows you to view the DOW 30, NASDAQ 100, or your own portfolios or watchlists.

Market Summary

Market Summary is a completely customizable grid-style overview for Indices, Futures, and Currencies. Much like the Top Banner Area, you can add tickers and custom labels to fill out your market summary to best suit your needs.  You can also use the default categories of Indices, Currencies, Energy, Metals, and Agriculture to get you started.

Portfolio Analysis

The Portfolio Analysis module is another great way to get an overview of major sectors or even your own customized portfolios.  With it you can quickly view  percentage gains and losses, and top 10 gainers, losers, and volumes.

Chat

Keep up to date with other Money.Net members with our Money.Net Chat module.  You can join in the conversation in a multi-member open chat room or create your own private chat for you and your friends.  We also offer alternative chats from Symphony and Slack.

Clock

The Clock module is available to all users to create a custom set of world clocks.  You can add multiple clocks for different countries/time zones and customize the formats to your liking.

Weather

The Weather module can give you a live weather status for your area. Simply enter your zipcode or location and press the enter key.

Time and Sales Tracker

The Time and Sales Tracker module is .an easy way to see a live updating list of a single ticker symbol’s last activity.  You can view the number of shares, price, and time for each tick of data.

Snap Quote

A Snap Quote module is a quick and easy way to get a basic quote on a stock without adding it to your portfolios.  Simply type in the ticker symbol and click GO.

Futures Chain

The Futures Chain module is useful tool that organizes futures by contract date for a particular ticker.  Note: This is an add-on feature that becomes available when subscribed to real time futures. You can get more information here.

Tips and Customizable Features

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT SAVING: The Money.Net application does NOT auto-save by default.

This is an intentional feature so the many small adjustments made in daily use, such as moving from screen to screen, putting in temporary tickers, or even just moving a window slightly will not change your default views and modules.  Please get used to saving any changes you would like saved, such as after customizing tabs, settings or portfolios. There are four ways to save:

1. Click the Save icon located in the Top Banner Area (shown below) and then choose Save Now.

referenceguide-SaveLocation.JPG

2. In the Top Banner Area of the platform,  click “My Views” then select Save Changes to all Views.

3. You can set up a 5-minute timed reminder to ask if you would like to save by clicking on the Save icon (shown below) and selecting the radio button next to “I will save manually. However, please remind me.” Then click on Save Now to keep the setting.

referenceguide-SaveMenu.JPG

note: You will need to manually save once after changing this option.

4. You can set up a 5-minute timed auto-save (not recommended) by clicking on the Save icon (shown above) and selecting the radio button next to  Autosave every 5 minutes. Then click on Save Now to keep the setting.

Auto-hide Controls (Smart Corners)

The Money.Net platform features intuitive and interactive "Smart Corners" that maximize the visible portions of modules to easily view more information. Smart Corners limit the amount of unused space on your screen by making the headers and scroll bar of each module window disappear when not being accessed. This maximizes the viewable size of the core of the module. To view the header of a module, simply mouse over the module and the smart corners will make the header and scroll bars instantly reappear. Smart Corners are turned on in the default settings.

To TURN OFF smart corners, simply click the Tools menu and then on “Turn Autohide Controls Off”.  You can turn them back on in the same menu location.

Be sure to click the Save icon to save your settings when finished (shown below).

Arranging Your Modules

If you start with a brand new View (explained above) or want to re-arrange the Modules in your current view you have a few options.  All changes require you to Save using the Save icon when you are finished (shown below).

referenceguide-SaveLocation.JPG

Resize

Move your cursor to the edge of the module that you wish to resize until you see a double arrow, then left-click and drag to a preferred size.

Drag and Drop

Move your cursor to the Title Bar of the module that you wish to move.  Then left-click and drag your module to a new location. Make sure to click the save icon when finished.

Tile and Cascade

Accessible from the Modules menu, this allows you to quickly organize and size all of the modules in your current view.  It can also be used to gain control of a module that seems hidden or out of the bounds of your view.

Always on Top

This allows you to always view a specified module on top of all the other modules, regardless of your moving them around or sizing other windows.   This feature is accessible from each module by right clicking the Title Bar of the module and selecting "Always on Top".

Duplicate

If you really like the module that you have created and would like another one, use the duplicate feature.  This feature is accessible from each module by right clicking the Title Bar of the module and selecting “Duplicate”.

Import Portfolios

You can import your pre-made portfolio information into the Money.Net software. To import your portfolios from other websites or software applications, your portfolio will need to be in a specific format called “Comma Separated Values” format or CSV.  Most applications (including Excel) will allow you to export data in CSV format.

Preparation and Formatting

To see an example file of how to set up your data for import, click on Tools -> Import Holdings from a File -> Give me an example of the TXT input format.  You will then be given the opportunity to save the file named “Import Portfolio Sample.txt” to a location on your computer.  You can open this file  with the spread sheet program of your choice (Excel is suggested).  You are also welcome to use a simple text editor, but it may be more tedious.  Follow the pattern in the file to add your own symbols, shares, purchase dates, and base prices.  Here is what the format looks like:

referenceguide-screencap7.JPG

note: the first row is a descriptive header, there is a space between each row

When finished editing your portfolio, you will want to Export it as CSV with quotes around all of your values.  If you edited your portfolio with a regular text editor, you can simply save the file.

Importing the File

To import your custom portfolio file, click on Tools->Import Holdings from a File->Import Holdings via TXT file.  You will be prompted to browse for your custom file.  Don’t worry if you don’t immediately see your portfolio, you still need to use the drop down menu in a Quote Grid module to select it for viewing (shown below).

Adjusting Money.Net Colors

Clicking on the Tools menu and selecting “Configure Colors” will take you to the Layout and Colors options for the entire platform.  Here is what it looks like:

ColorModificationScreen.JPG

Using the drop down menu next to “Apply Skin” will allow you to choose from a few pre-set color packs for the platform.  The drop down menu right after the word “to” will let you select which modules (or the entire platform) you would like to apply your color pack to.

If you would like to change individual colors of the background of the platform or set a skin for it, you can do so here as well.

To change the individual colors of any one module, you will need to click on the settings icon in the upper right of the module to access its color options.  It looks like a small gear and can be seen below.

menuIcons.JPG

Linking Modules

Linking modules is a quick way to see the data you want to see without all of the extra clicks.  When a module is “linked” to your Quote Grid, you will be able to single click on tickers in your quote grid and have all of the linked modules attempt to load data related to your selection.  The icon to enable linking looks like a chain link and can be seen below.  It will light up green when enabled.

menuIcons2.JPG

Linking is available for the following modules: Charts, Snap Quote, Radar, News, Option Chain, and Time and Sales Tracker.
